PROVIDENCIALES, TCI (March 22, 2010) -- In a noble show of support, the 120 staff members of Building Materials Ltd Do it Centre sacrificed a portion of their individual salaries for a cumulative donation of $6,050 to the TCI Red Cross. "On behalf of Do it Centre and all of the employees who are working here who have contributed and all of the Haitian family members who have lost their houses, we would like to present this cheque to the Red Cross," said Jacky Bernadin, Team Leader at BML Do it Centre. Building Materials Ltd explained that the Red Cross was an easy choice as the organization has been extremely helpful to Haitians both here and in their home country, which is still recuperating from the January 12, 2010 7.0 magnitude earthquake which killed hundreds of thousands of people. "You have been working hard for this community, and we really appreciate that because even though there are so many (other) problems, you still think about us, the Haitian people, who have lost so much. We say thank you, the Haitian staff and other staff of Do it Centre says thank you." Bernadin, who has been with BML for nearly 12-years also expressed gratitude in Creole before presenting the cheque to Linda Sweeney, director of the TCI Red Cross. The Red Cross is so grateful for support, and it is just so great to have a neighbours here, with the employees getting involved. The Red Cross recovery commitment to Haiti is three years and to run programmes like that, it takes money so two months later we love to receive the cheques and love to continue our work in Haiti," expressed Sweeney. The funds were raised through salary deductions of each employee, and Building Materials Ltd Do it Centre matched the donated sum.
