Mercedes Electric Supply is an American company founded in 1979 by two entrepreneurs, Mercedes and Victor LaPorta. The company has grown in 22 years from a company of two to a successful corporation with 45 employees. Mercedes Electric's first location was a 1,000 square foot warehouse that distributed Sylvania light bulbs, its first product line. In a short time, Mercedes and Victor had built both customer and vendor relationships. In the following six years the company experienced considerable growth and in 1985, Mercedes Electric moved to a new location with 7,000 square feet of warehouse and 4,000 square feet of office space. The staff also grew to a total of 13 employees and two trucks were added to the fleet. In less than ten years, Mercedes Electric had achieved important steps toward its goal of being one of the leaders in the distribution of electrical equipment in Florida. In 1990, our company became a Square D Premier Distributor and in 1996, Square D selected Mercedes Electric to be their only authorized distributor of its High Tech products for South Florida. Over the years, Mercedes Electric has been certified by federal and state agencies throughout the country with minority certifications such as MBE (Minority Business Enterprise), WBE (Women Business Enterprise), HBE (Hispanic Business Enterprise), and DBE (Disadvantage Business Enterprise). As a certified minority company, we have gained the ability to participate in contracting opportunities offered through government agencies. In October of 1995, in order to continue our growth and to maintain the quality of our services, Mercedes and Victor purchased a 20,000 square foot warehouse and an 8,000 square foot office space. In 1999, Mercedes Electric Supply joined the list of The 250 Largest Electrical Distributors in the United States. Today Mercedes Electric Supply maintains over $2,000,000 of inventory and operates a fleet of six trucks. In the year 2000 sales voulme reached $25,000,000. We hope to continue to grow by serving YOU, our customer.
