WASTE MANAGEMENT AUTHORITY

Since 1999, HWMA has been committed to waste reduction and materials diversion activities, beginning with diversion of green waste from the local landfill, expanding over the years to include recycling, CRV Buy-Back, household hazardous wastes, universal wastes (batteries, CFL bulbs, medical sharps), electronic wastes, appliances, oil and other automotive fluids, carpet recycling, paint-care and re-use, and tires. Authority staff work closely with our member agencies, franchise haulers and the public to identify opportunities to reduce, re-use and remove other materials from conventional landfills. The Cummings Road Landfill ceased landfill activities in June of 200, and following several years of planning and permitting, the landfill underwent construction closure activities that were completed in 2016. The Authority is responsible for 30 years of closure/post-closure maintenance and monitoring activities. HWMA does not provide or oversee any curbside services, nor the rental of boxes or bins. If you need these services, please contact your local franchise hauler. A complete list is found here (link).
