The importance of producing garments and accessories ethically, led Sandra to source the production from her home country, Portugal. With the help of her cousin Joana, Sandra discovered a small production facility completely run by women, allowing them to work at their own pace and manage their own workloads day by day. It was important for Sandra to meet these women personally, to ensure lamarel is being produced in an ethical way. Portugal means home from me, but also when it comes to the production. Portuguese factories follow European laws and policies regarding Labour relation practices. A working day is 8h = 40h per week. Morning and afternoon breaks between 10-15 minutes are provided, lunch breaks vary between 60-90 minutes. Portugal is known for its quality workmanship and known to respect working conditions. Portugal is also known for premium fabric research and improved knowledge and technology. I visited the production very often so that I could guarantee our high standard. We do not mass produce and we will always prioritize ethical practices. Our goal is to minimize waste, which is why we create limited collections and pre-order system. We know that we are still far away to become a sustainable brand, but we try our best as a small company. Our hang tag and packaging are made with 100% recycled materials in Portugal too. GIRLS CAN DO ANYTHING - this is our message. We constantly creating the must have basics for every womans wardrobe. For this reason we do not do collections - our main is to help every woman to build her very own statement pieces wardrobe - peu à peu. Our believe is to buy less, but better.
